Method and limits

Positions: the OpenSky Network's world snapshot, the same one the map shows, sampled once an hour. ADS-B carries no destination, so each airline callsign is matched to its published route in the Virtual Radar Server standing data (via adsb.lol, ODbL); a multi-leg route is resolved to the leg the aircraft is on by its position, and a callsign far off every leg is left unrouted. Private, military and cargo flights without a scheduled callsign have no route and count only in the totals. "Per day" counts are lower bounds: a flight that starts and ends between two samples is not seen. Coverage depends on volunteer receivers and is thin over oceans, Africa and parts of Asia. A high-risk destination means the country's situation level, not that a flight is unsafe.
